Surulian could feel the restless spirit which loomed in discontent perpetually within him, to suddenly lighten in response to the invitation into possibilities. No, of course he had not been fully accepted into the brethren of these forest wolves, and yet the promise of hope was all it took to ignite that idle flame he harbored. His path had been a lengthy one, and when he had thought that it had come to its inevitable end, whether that be by his doing or not, another pathway had been shown to him. Would he ever have pondered upon the possibility of a new home, a new life, a new family even? Certainly not, for such things are impossible when looking out from behind a veil of heartache which obscures the true world around you. The truth of it though, was that he had not wanted to see into the future and what life might bestow upon him. He had wanted it all too simply end, for the watercolor grey pallet to succumb to gentle night. But some prayers go unanswered, and they may be for reasons we can never fully understand.
Silently he had jogged along behind the female who had graciously allowed him past the borders in search of the alpha. The soil here felt fresh and fertile and easily was gripped between his pads as he thrust with a bold long stride which quickly covered the terrain. His posture was sure to be kept submissive and friendly, large ebony ears pricked forward, open to the breeze and her sultry song. The small journey allowed his eyes time to roam the dignified features of the landscape as it rolled past him as if a projection screen. Scents particular to this region alone bore the signature of various trees and plants as well as the wolves who roamed here.
Having arrived after the catastrophe with the deer, the situation Surulian happened upon as he entered the clearing containing the Ravilin pack was puzzling and slightly alarming. Though no immediate tension could be detected, a haze of worry loomed above their heads. The salivating aroma of a fresh kill was evident yet this did not bring his immediate attention. Instead he looked on to the gathering of wolves and moved hesitantly nearer but did not commit himself to their immediate gathering as he was not part of their family, at least not yet.

Larka, having slept so fitfully, awoke yet again when the fur along her nape prickled, forwarning her of a stranger's arrival. Bright golden orbs blinked open and stared at the ebony wolf on the fringes of her clearing. A snarl would have errupted from her had the wind not shifted, carrying his foreign smell mixed with that of her daughter's. A commanding tone was given as she rose to a sitting position, biting back the pain as best she could.
Loner, it is your lucky day that you carry the scent of my daughter, for you are far within Ravilin lands. I am Larka, the Alpha here. State your name and purpose.
A growl enunciated her words as she watched him, awaiting a reply. Normally Larka was kind and gentle, but the strain of her wounded limbs was wearing her patience thin.

It was immediately apparent exactly who the alpha was. The atmosphere swirled about her with authority and dominance. She seemed a regal wolf, and though the current situation was tense, her eyes were not unkind. Something seemed very wrong though, as if when she stood, it pained her. For a grimace passed over her stern façade in a flash and was gone. Surulian knew his position was not a favorable one, and that in his coming here, not immediately greeted and accepted by the alpha would cause some sort of strife. But he genuinely hoped to show her his true intentions and that he meant only to be one with them.
As she spoke his large raven bodice stilled and his lustrous ebon plume tucked quickly between his hindquarters submissively. He spoke softly as not to seem imposing but did not cower in freight. For surely the addition of a strong, able protector to their pack would be found promising. He met her gaze steadily, knowing full well what her position meant and the formalities that had to be taken.
“Please know I meant no disrespect in coming here. My name is Surulian and your daughter allowed me entrance so that I might find you and humbly ask for acceptance into your pack. “
With that his bodice lowered and inched forward, then twisted, dropping into a full display of submission, offering himself to her as he exposed his vital areas.

A soft sigh escaped her at his words, her muscles visibly relaxing as she watched him. A slight smile graced her muzzle as he moved forward, so that she would not have so far to travel.
Surulian? What an interesting name. How old are you? You have certainly come at the right time, for my ranks are thin and my protector is nearly an elder. I welcome you, Surulian, into the Ranks of the Ravilin Forest pack.
your dark color certainly makes you stand out amongst us...
Her golden gaze swept the pale white coats of her son Lorkan, her own silvery white pelt, and the coats of her friends Cloud and Zenna. Rising stiffly, but with immense determination, Larka Brushed herself firmly along his side from crania to plume, mixing his interesting scent into th banner that was the Ravilin Clan.
Assuming a more comfortable position she stated non-chelantly
I was crushed by an old reindeer, but I will be fine. There is quite a bit of said reindeer left...about a hundred yards south of us. You are welcome to it. Where do you hail from? Your scent is rather...unfamiliar
She stated this in merely a curious tone, for it did not offend her, nor did it give her cause to be suspiscious.

Cloud shifted and moved as Larka did through the night, not waking when her alpha's words to Carrick were uttered. When Larka around with a growl, though, the white wolfess was alert instantly and sprung to her feet beside the injured female. Her hackles bristled and fell briefly, for she too had scented Kira on the newcomer.
The white wolf watched in silence as Surulian stated his name and his purpose for being within the pack lands, which was then demonstrated by his humbled demeanor. Cloud stood hesitantly the side, watching, waiting, as Larka moved forward and rubbed herself against him. She smiled encouragingly toward Surulian, feeling the same newness to the forest no doubt as him, but she already felt she had melded into the cracks of the woodland wolves. Welcome, Surulian, she rumbled, still staying back until her leader was finished.

How many times had the places been reversed in times long past? How many times had he met head on with an intruder with all the ferocity that he could muster? There was of course a fine line which he tread, as though the horizon between day and night. One extreme forging a vicious intent that sought only for savagery. While the opposing extreme wished only to instill fear. In truth, Surulian was not a ferocious creature, nor was he ill tempered or bad willed. He was a creature born of emotion and driven by it though. And we can suppose that such a fuel could ignite a flame in a circumstance that was better left to die down into nothingness. Surulian was also a thinker, brooding an entire saga in an instant and then mulling it over once again in a new perspective. But perhaps more than anything, the soul that dwindled however bright within him, was one of a dreamer. Perhaps he did not let on to such things, coming off as regal or combative. But alas no… inside that plated armor that had been build upon the tears of heartache lay the notions and whims of a free spirit.
Having pulled himself from his submissive post, he stood quietly, regarding his new alpha intently. Silently he made note of the wariness in her eyes, and the currents of pain that washed over her face. As he shifted the intricate raven sinews of his thick fur wavered in the light breeze which whistled in the distance as it succumbs to the labyrinth of the timbre. He listened to her words and an image was painted of this place and the events that had preceded his entrance and grimaced at her tale, knowing of the pain often inflicted by those who we choose to gain nourishment from.
“I would have to say, when considering it, that I have seen the passing of a full five turns of the seasons. Though sometimes it feels it has been many more years that that. I come from a land very very far from this place, in a land called Reykjavik. When I was but a yearling I formed a pack upon those shores, in a region known as Cold Creek. We were the only pack in all of Reykjavik amongst hordes of horse herds. I lived and breathed that place, and nearly died when it crumbled to ruins. But though a piece of me was left behind, I have awaked to a new world, and the hope of a new life. I fear I have lived in the shadows for too long and yearn for the light of life with a passion I have never before felt. Thank you for this opportunity. I would protect you and your clan with my life."
With eagerness and zeal he accepted her brushing embrace, intermingling their scents and yet much more than that. A pact had been formed in that singular moment in time. A promise of loyalty. His luxurious tail wavered exuberantly as he stepped aside, watching the remaining pack with a friendly gaze. His vision rested softly upon a beautiful pallid feminine wolf who had stood quickly at the side of her leader at his approach. Her eyes were kind now though and unthreatening. His own eyes seemed to smile and dance at her as she welcomed him, hoping she might know how gracious he was for such a welcome.
“Thank you dearly. It is my hope to know you, and all of my new pack better in time, so that I might truly be your kin in the eyes of the moon.”

Larka smiled warmly at him, her golden orbs glimmering sagely.
Surulian...Everything happens for a reason. I am glad to accept you amongst my ranks, and as far as I am concerned, you are a member of my family. Embrace life to the fullest with us by your side always.
A flicker of...loneliness crossed her brillianr gaze as she watched him, her heart wishing she could have a yin to rule beside her yang...but those who had come and gone had done just that...left her with a few pups only to vanish without a trace or a word...if she were to approach him at some point would he do the same?
Was she forever destined to be alone?
Rising to her feet she took a few stiff staggering steps forward, willing herself onward. She had to keep her muscles flowing, keep her strength up to fight the debilitating stiffness that threatened to consume her bodice. She thanked the stars silently again that she was in the prime of life, only four years had she seen, but being thrust under the mantle of Alpha-hood at such a young age had forced her to mature far quicker than most. Resting against a tree she remained standing, but her limbs quaked with the effort. Her expression turned serious as she contemplated how long she would be less than perfect for.

Cloud smiled, almost shyly, at Surulian as he responded. Her eyes flickered back to her alpha, though, when Larka painstakingly stretched her sore muscles and leaned against the nearest tree. The pale wolf glanced at the dark newcomer. She hurts, but it is more than a physical thing, I'm afraid. The she-wolf stepped after Larka, pressing her muzzle against the other's hindquarters and licking, checking for any signs of blood.
Larka, would there be anything that you would have me do? she rumbled questioningly, hoping that she might ease her alpha's burdens, whatever all they were, if she could.

Larka's golden gaze softened as Cloud approached her. Contemplating the pale wolf's words she sighed wearily, her heart knowing that they were gone even before she spoke.
You could take Lorkan and search the terrain for those who have not answered my call.
It will give you a chance to learn the forest, and give lorkan something to do so he does not feel so guilty. Carrick and Zena are here if Surulian changes his ways.
She meant no harm in what she conveyed, it was simply the proper thing to say when you send half your pack away and you are injured with a new pack member.
Lorkan chuffed softly and nuzzled along his mother's side, quickly departing to bring her a large chunk of meat before he left. Standing by Cloud, his deep blue orbs could not hide the spark of excitement that he felt at getting to show another wolf his beloved forest.
Please come, Cloud. There are so many beautiful and amazing things to see...maybe we will even find my father and brother!
His plume wavered with all the hope that young age brings, but Larka had experienced it enough in her lifetime.
She knew her mate would not return.

The white wolf nodded her head to Larka, understanding her silent words with a quick glance back at Surulian. If you allow, he might too come with us. She didn't press the issue further, but instead the pale femme paced to Lorkan's side and gave him a friendly nudge and a quick lick on the cheek. I would love to meet them, Lorkan. Show me the way. Her tassel wavered pleasantly as she looked around the clearing one last time, seeing Zena and Carrick and her new leader with the dark wolf, and then Cloud turned away from the pretty scene - minus the gore of the hunt, Larka's injuries, and the strange tension in the air - and stepped back into the shadow of the forest.... start a new thread?

Larka nodded to Cloud.
That sounds fine. Just return in a few days, alright?
She watched with som trepidation as Lorkan nuzzled playfully into Cloud and then began bounding off into the trees...

Kira was very close to her mother now, and a soft whine of worry escaped her muzzle.
Do not be alarmed when my mother cannot rise to greet you, Ember. She was crushed by the reindeer that lies within the clearing. Do not hesitate to eat, we want to dispose of it as quickly as possible.
Quickening her pace she arrived at the clearing where her pack was and was surprised to see Cloud and Lorkan gone, along with the scent of a new pack member. Moving to nuzzle her mother warmly Kira straightened and introduced Ember.
Mother, this is Ember. A stray pup I found chewing on a rotting bear carcass. her parents are gone. Can she stay?
Larka turned her elegant crania in the direction of the pup, her brilliant golden orbs studied her before a soft rumble escaped her chest. shifting into a more comfortable reclining position Larka shook the debris from her thick silvery white fur before she spoke in a soft but powerful voice.
My name is Larka. I am the Alpha of the mighty Ravilin Forest. It is a pleasure to meet you, little ember. Do you wish to become a part of my clan?
Her golden orbs studied the pup, knowing that the poor thing only wanted food and rest, but formalities had to be taken care of first and foremost.

Carrick stood off at a distance, still watching Larka and keeping an ear pricked toward Zena. He had silently seen Cloud, Lorkan, and Surulian vanish into the woods, and he was half glad that they had taken the new male with them. At least he didn't have to worry too much over him... Worry about what, though? Larka could take care of herself, even injured, and the black wolf didn't look to be a power-hungry brute bent on taking the forest from them.
The large wolf snorted, half amused. Well, there's not much for me to do, I don't suppose. He refused to move closer to the white alpha unless it was a direct order. The cub entered the clearing then, with Kira, and he glanced up at them, still unmoving. He sat like a statue, a big statue, but his usually kind brown eyes were cold enough to be made from stone.

Keeping her body respectfully low to the ground, Ember left Kira's side and approached the alpha with her ears back and tail tucked against her belly. Once close enough, the pup plopped onto her ruddy brown back. Her little legs were bent in the air and her white belly exposed in total submission.
But before answering the alpha's inquiry, Ember craned her head back towards Kira. The female pup's light blue eyes gazed at her new friend for help. Yes, she wanted the safety and security of a group. But Kira had said she'd help her look for her family. Would pledging loyalty to Larka mean giving up on her family? Would she be cast out or worse if she didn't? What should she do?
Made fearful by this dilemma, Ember began to whimper in distress.

Kira saw the unheard body language and got down on her belly, crawling to lay beside the pup, brushing her coat with her own to comfort her. Softly she whispered.
If you pledge loyalty and we don't find your parents, you have a home. If we do find your parents, perhaps we could persuade them to stay as well. If we cannot, I am sure mother will let you go.
Larka shifted her gaze to the south as the wind changed direction, her muzzle scented the air delicately.
Kira, Ember will be fine here with me. I caught Polaris's scent along with the scent of another, go and make sure she is alright.
Kira nodded and licked the top of Ember's crania before she rose and headed west towards Polaris and the strange wolf.
