(OOC:...Lol. It seems I'm late. =p) [glow=teal,2,300] Zena[/glow] Zena saw Larka dash toward the cow, and had followed. While The others began to grab body parts, she too attempted to find a hold. However, being so unused to hunting with a group, she couldn't manage to find anywhere before she felt she got too close to dislodging someone else. Her heart thrummed in her ears, as her golden eyes searched for a free spot. Suddenly the doe began to tilt, and Zena swerved to avoid her crushing weight. The doe didn't fall just that second though. She managed to strike out with her hooves. Zena having dashed widely, upset and panic-stricken at her inability to help managed to dash right in the path of one of the sharp hooves. She felt a searing pain across her right foreleg, and restrained her yelp. She saw the deer go down on Larka, and began to jerk on the hind limb of the deer. She wasn't doing anything, really. Just yanking, hoping maybe she was helping. She began to switch to full panic, when Carrick came running up. He managed to save Larka, and Zena let go of the hind, panting. She stood and watched as other Ravilins emerged out of the wood, as it were. Kira was there, angry for her Mother's pain. Zena watched Cloud slink away, as Kira, Lorkan and Carrick began to treat Larka. She decided her place, and started to walk to Cloud. She was alarmed by pain in her leg, and looked down to where the doe had caught her. Red stained the bottom portion of her leg, and her paw. She was bleeding from the doe's kick, and now was forced to limp. She gave an angry sigh, directed at herself and hobbled over toward Cloud. I am sorry I was such poor help, Cloud. Do not judge me for it. I have not hunted with others in so long...I fear it was my undoing. It may well be my fault for not helping more. I…am sorry. Her orbs plead an apology to Cloud, and she turned to look at Larka wishing she would recover, wishing that apology could’ve been heard by her ears too. Settling down beside the other fem, Zena began to clean her leg, watching the Alphess. Feeling great relief when she spoke. Thank the Moon and Sun. Our Alphess lives. She gave a small happy howl of joy, before returning to licking her leg pink.

(sorry about that, creativity had me =p)
Larka then noticed Zena, and her leg.
Is that sympathy pain my dear? Of course I live, you think an old cow can take your Alpha down so easily?
A sparkle of laughter entered her golden orbs and was quickly gone as she again tried to move her limbs, with little progress.
Lorkan, wracked by guilt, acted as a crutch for his mother, wishing he could carry her fully upon his back. it was just too difficult to support a wolf whose hind limbs were injured. A frustrated bark escaped his young muzzle as he crawled over to Zena and attempted to lick her leg, blaming himself for her injury as well.
Kira shook her pretty crania and forced her mother to lie back down. You are not invincible, you know. Thank the stars we are all still young and in our primes. Rising and walking to the carcass she tore into it fiercly, venting her anger in an appropriate place. Selecting tender choice bits, Kira, now more relaxed, carried several mouthfuls to her mother, she herself not eating a bite.

My knight. Her words hung in his ears as he turned away from her bright gaze, troubled as always whenever he was around her. We all helped, Larka. That was it, though. Once he might have added a more snide remark, but instead he dipped his had and stepped aside from them. He glanced up when the alpha addressed Zena, and his orbs narrowed with worry. You were hurt, too? She had been involved in the hunt, then, and he just hadn't seen her in the chaos.
The large wolf grumbled to himself when Kira said, Thank the stars we are all still young and in our primes. His nape spike and flattened as he thought, Not us all, young wolf. Not us all. He huffed and stepped toward Zena, his voice soft when he finally spoke. Let me see your leg, there. Kira was tending to Larka, and Lorkan was young. He would help Zena.

The fem watched Zena approach with a troubled gaze, but she kept flicking her eyes back to Larka, for at least their alpha was awake now, though hurt. Thank the River's Guardians, she responded to Zena, quietly. It wasn't anyone's fault, least of all yours. It could have been anyone injured, but at least the pack still had several wolves on their feet and healthy, uninjured.
The she-wolf eyed the large male for a moment, wondering who he was, and then brought her attention back to Larka. Is there anything you would have us do, Larka? Perhaps find a more sheltered place for you and Zena to rest? She was more than willing to look for something nearby, safe, for it meant both helping and exploring the territory.

Larka nodded her crania at Carrick, content to not have him chewing her head of for speaking to him. Looking over to Cloud, she sighed heavily.
I would love to, but I do not believe that I can walk.
With Kira and Lorkan pressed against her, Larka did manage to stand, though her bodice shook with the effort of it. Grinding her teeth and keeping silent, Larka nodded to Cloud before having her crutches move an agonizing 100yards to a sheltered clearing where the sun beat down, warming her aching flesh. Collapsing on the ground with an exhasperated sigh, she closed her eyes to recouperate.

The pale wolfess stood and followed her leader, but once Larka had lay down and closed her eyes to rest, Cloud turned back to the kill. Stupid beast, causing us so much grief, she thought, ironically. She approached it, noting that Larka had eaten and the others didn't seem interested, and began tugging at the carcass to pull a slab of meat away for herself. She pulled free a large portion and, deciding it was too big for her alone, turned back toward Zena, also injured.
She dropped it near the female and sighed, looking at the wounded leg of her new friend. That will take some time to heal, I'm afraid. Cloud crouched and began nibbling on the meat, her ears pricked toward Larka to hear any commands she might issue.

[glow=teal,2,300] Zena[/glow] Zena smiled at her Alphess's words. No, I do not, Larka. I do think that old cows can be awful heavy though. Zena watched Lorkan's stressed form, and when he tried to lick her leg, she let him and licked the top of his head. Calm down, young Lorkan. Your stress and guilt will only hurt you and make you unable to help. She smiled at him, hoping he wouldn't worry so much. Carrick approached her, and she smiled up at the older wolf. Hello, Carrick. Lucky for us you were so close. She offered her leg to him now, not getting up. What can you make of it Carrick? She glanced at her leg with a worried expression. She didn't think it would be too bad. It was bleeding now, true, but it should stop soon. She might just have a bit of a limp for a while. She watched Larka move across the land painstakingly, and she gave a sigh of relief when Larka finally rest her form back on the ground. She glanced up as the smell of meat and blood got stronger, and noticed the Cloud had brought over a piece of meat for them to share. She smiled in thanks at the similarly pelt fem. What a way for your first day in the clan to go, Cloud. Thank you for your help, all of you. Her golden orbs were laced with thanks, with a slight hint of pain she tried to keep hidden. She bit at the slab of meat, taking off a little chunk. She swallowed it with relish, happy that at least some good came out of Larka and her injury.

Lorkan released a soft woof and nuzzled zena slightly before moving out of Carrick's way. With his belly growling, he trotted over to the kill and managed to mangle a good portion of it, but he felt better afterwards with a full stomach and less tension. Laying next to his mother he nuzzled her and groomed her haunches, hoping that in some way it would cure her of her ailment.
Larka sighed and bit back a yelp of pain as her son's teeth sank a bit too deep, her frazzled yet content expression was one that every mother knew well.
Indeed, she was heavy, I thank the stars now that I had not set my sights upon the bull!
A soft laugh escaped her as she gazed around at her family with warm golden orbs. Even though she was in a great deal of pain, it was numbed by the presence of her pack around her, which had been shattered for so long.
Attempting to stretch and relax her hind limbs, Larka concluded that they were bruised, and the damage didnt seem to be permanent, but she was certainly out of comission for at least a few days.

Carrick nudged Zena's leg gently, carefully, and lapped his tongue against it after he was sure it wouldn't cause her more damage. I believe it's just a deep cut. It's nothing to worry over, it may sting, but it won't last but a week or so. The large brute was uncharacteristically soft spoken as he rumbled this. He glanced up after administering to her, and he saw that Larka had moved across the open meadow to a sheltered clearing, just outside the ring of trees.
The large wolf lowered his haunches after a moment of looking at the rest of the pack. We haven't been together, peacefully, in a long while. His brown eyes darkened as he wondered where Faris was, and the rest of Larka's cubs. He hadn't seen his once silver friend in moons, and although it would worry Larka, he didn't miss him.

Larka's golden orbs shadowed Carrick's as she too was drawn to think of the ones who had not answered her call.
Am I truly that unlucky, to have pups with fathers that disappear without a trace? Have I been such a terrible mate that I chase them away? What is wrong with me?
A soft sigh escaped her as she attempted to change her thoughts to more pleasant things, but the dark cloud could not leave the shadows of her orbs as the feelings of doubt in herself clawed at her very soul.

The white wolfess finished her meal and sat back on her haunches, watching the pack dynamics at work and wondering at them. Larka seemed to be a good leader, and although she was hurt she was calm and in control. Yet there was a shadow of doubt that hung around the facial features of the striking white leader, and Cloud didn't know enough history to answer the nagging questions that it brought up. Lorkan was young but a good, loyal pack wolf, and Kira seemed to be a bit worrisome of her mother but overall a strong young member.
Zena and Carrick were different, though. They were not blood related to the alpha line, and there seemed to be a heavy link between Larka and the large, older brute. She couldn't begin to understand it, but it made her twist her head to the side with curiosity.
The she-wolf huffed and stood up, shaking her pelt. She moved closer to Larka, rumbling sympathetically, and laid now near her leader. She edged forward, ears pricked in attention, toward her alpha. With an almost cub-like sidle she managed to get close enough to Larka to touch her alpha's side with her nose, stretched out perpendicular to her. Cloud sighed, content for the moment, and closed her eyes to rest while they pack recovered.

Cloud edging along the ground to lay at her side was just the sort of distraction Larka needed. Craning her neck around to touch the top of the femme's crania with her chin, she let out a sigh and closed her orbs.
I am sorry that your first day here has been so chaotic, normally we are splintered, wandering the endless forests in solitude. the relationships amongst my pack and I are complicated. I was left with the Ravilin when I was only a year old, my beta and mate are gone. It is indeed a strange dynamic but I know not how to change the cycle that we seem to be locked within.
Golden orbs flickered open as Lorkan plopped heavily by her side, nuzzling against her for comfort and forgiveness.
Kira rose to lay near Zena, so the other injured femme did not feel left out, althugh she did not know her very well. Speaking in soft tones, Kira looked at Zena with deep cerulean blue orbs.
Do you really think we few are all that's left? Have all the others honestly vanished into the trees? Im starting to wonder if this forest is cursed, its no wonder mother was given it at such a young age.
Shaking her crania and loking out across the clearing, a slight chill crawled down her spine as she thought the trees now held an almost ominous feel to the whispering branches.

The large wolf grunted dismissively at Kira's question for Zena. He glanced away from the group and into the forest, thinking over what the young she-wolf had voice. The forest isn't cursed. His eyes briefly flickered to Larka's prostrate form, and they narrowed before he looked away again. It's leadership is, he thought to himself. Others might read the disgust on his features, but they wouldn't know his true thoughts.
Carrick rose and shook his pelt. He moved away from the others, having no reply from Zena, and sat back down once there was some distance between himself and the others. He lowered his head to his paws and closed his dark eyes, not bothered by the lack of familial ties in his clan. For some reason, it seemed fitting.

[glow=teal,2,300] Zena[/glow] Zena heard Carrick's words, and sighed with relief. She listened to Kira, glancing toward the woods. She watched the trees wave in the breeze, almost quiet but not exactly. They whispered to each other. Zena's orbs followed the transfer, before she glanced up at Carrick. From up close she could smell that he was less then happy. She saw the disgust on his features, and wondered if it was at Kira's words. Her brow furrowed at his form in confusion and she watched him separate himself to lay down. Poor Carrick. She thought. It may be easy for me to attempt to fit into the pack, but whatever has happened between him and Larka seems to stop him. She flicked an ear, curious at what had happened, though knowing that if Carrick wished to share it with her, he would. SHe glanced back to the trees, thinking of Kira's words again. The forest is not cursed. If you've walked alone with it long enough, you'll know that. It's nothing more then a spectator. We may be all that's left, but it has nothing to do with the forest itself. Perhaps they're just lost. They may have wandered too far. Her last words fell lamely on even her own ears, but she knew the part about the forest rang true.

Kira let out a forced exhalation of breath.
Something here is wrong...I know it is
Rising abruptly to her feet, she nuzzled her mother gently before walking to the carcass again. Taking her fill, she removed a large chunk that was still easily carried, and made her way out of the forest, heading towards the Atyka.
Lorken let the softest of whimpers release from himself as he saw his half sister leaving. Returning his focus to his mother's haunches he continued to groom and nibble, hoping that the stimulated blood would help her heal faster.
Larka gazed up at the canopy above them, wondering vaguely if the kameskians were suffering such losses as well.
So many lost...we few that remain must stick together, or the Ravilin will be forever shattered...
