I’m the warrior of life, I know the reaper by name. Tongue took in the air as Rhys came to a stop. They were close to the place where the earth suddenly fractured. He kept his steps light, making sure that he wasn't going to be decieved and fall to the same fate as his alpha. Oceanic orbs untouched by winter scanned the terra, looking for the littler version of his alpha. Lysander. Where are you? Rhys worried slightly, the emotion tickling his mind. What if the little one had succumbed to the bout with nature? Then what would have happened to Faris? Oh, the situations that could have occured during his absense. Should neither of them turn up alive, he would curse the leisure he took in returning the alphess-child back to her mother. Please... be here... As Lorkan came upon the fractured earth, he splayed his limbs to more evenly distribute his weight. A short loud howl was given, a special howl shared among close brothers. He missed Lysander so much that it ached, and he would never forgive himself if anything had happened to him.

Cloud's lithe body slowed as her companions did, keeping her paws light on the ground in case the same fate should await her. She hovered back, gazing down into the hole from behind Lorkan. His call was sounded, and the she-wolf waited, hoping to hear a response. Several moments passed in silence, and the she-wolf edged forward too. She was lighter than the two males, and so felt better about coming closer to the end of the earth where the ground fell away. Her head poked over the side, but nothing was yet visible, if any wolf was indeed alive and down there.
She issued a soft whimper, backing up a few paces, and then glanced at Rhys. How long as it been, pack-brother, since you were last here? Cloud wondered if they hadn't come too late.

[glow=wheat,3,500]L Y S A N D E R[/glow] Walk straight for a final solution. Walk straight, don't you be so cold. Everything had gone utterly black. He had told himself not to succumb to slumber, for he knew well that he might not wake up if he did. He'd managed to get naps without incident, other nights it was impossible to to catch that rest because of their growling stomachs. Hunting for the both of them was something the young wolf never should have been tasked with, but alas it had come to pass.
Something shattered his peaceful air, the shards falling about him as snow. He willed himself awake, knowing that it could be a threat even though it seemed more like a song. He thought he heard his name... but, why would his father wake him? Had something happened? Wake up... time to see the brilliance of the packland once more...
Icy blue orbs tried to interpret the blur of white that he'd become so used to. His neck was limp for a second before he found the strength to raise it, looking across the chasm to where he spotted wolves.
Was he imagining? No! He couldn't be! It was his friends, his beloved packmates come to help him! Rhys had brought back a femme he did not know, but that was of no matter. Lorkan was indeed with them, his ever haunting mirror image. Power flowed into his limbs by the aid of the want to greet his family, a happy rumble flowing from his chest.
Father! Arise! Our brethren have arrived to lend their support for our ailing predicament! Lysander rose, shaking the crystallized life off of the pelt that kept him camouflaged from most of the less intelligent creatures. His eyes trailed into the pit, revealing the large brute, still captivated by slumber. Faris' son walked around the gap, for he was on the opposite side as his friends, and moved towards them, banner flagging happily.
Greetings, my fellow beasts! You have no idea how my heart is overwhelmed by the mere sight of you. My gratitude goes to each of you, as I am sure my father will profess as soon as he is rid of his cage. Lysander turned his head back a second and then walked back to the crack in the earth, awaiting his father's waking moment.Walk straight with a clear resolution. I'll state my case and never turn...

Lorkan was upon his brother in an instant, a flurry of relieved licks and nips.
Lysander! My dearest brother! I thought I had lost you for good. What of father? Why has he not awakened to my call?
Lorkan moved to the edge of the chasm and peered downwards, willing his orbs to trace the outline of his father's slumbering frame. A sharp bark was released from deep within his chest, willing it to find his father's auds, to rouse him from sleep and greet him properly, like a son should.
As he shifted around trying to see his father in the dark depths he felt the earth crumble beneath his paws. A startled yelp escaped his muzzle as he started to slip...

[glow=wheat,3,500]L Y S A N D E R[/glow] Walk straight for a final solution. Walk straight, don't you be so cold. Lysander was about to answer his brother's query when his brother approached the chasm. No, get back! Lorkan was nearing the spot where their father had fallen. The durability of Lorkan's stance was beginning to fail.
Adrenaline increasing to what seemed to Lysander to be tenfold, his maw reached for the base of his brother's tail. Grasping it as lightly as he could with his teeth, he set his feet in full reverse, hoping that he would save his brother from his father's fate. Walk straight with a clear resolution. I'll state my case and never turn...

Lorkan pressed backwards as hard as he could while still trying to prevent the cliffside from crumbling further beneath his paws. He too was fueled by adrenaline as he fought to save his life-and his tail. Backing far enough up to feel secure he panted heavily, realizing just how close he had come to being crippilingly injured, or maybe even dead.
Lacing his auds back against his crania and tucking his plume slightly between his haunches he lowered his body, apologizing for acting like a foolish yearling.
I guess I haven't been around cliffs much...
A sheepish grin flashed across his muzzle before he perked his auds towards the chasm, straining to hear the sounds of his beloved father.

Here lies the King, days of old reflected in his eyes. It had been far too long since he had seen the trees... it had been far too long since he had seen his Larka. His dreams were nothing but of her and her white splendor. Words could not even be said of how he missed her warmth beside him as he had once felt. Even in the summer, he still wished that though the sun would beat him with all its might. Faris had wished so hard that Lysander would leave him be in his agony, and allow him to drown in his sorrow.
His ears twitched, attempting to alert him to the disturbances on the surface. As his consciouness started to creep back into him, the first thing he noticed was the snow beneath his belly--not as white as the queen. Slowly, his eyes opened to a drizzle of snow falling down into his pit. His cranium rose as he heard a yelp, one that did not belong to Lysander.
Rising, the frozen water fell off of his silver pelt for no one to see. Backing up to see if he could see anything, Faris gave his hoarse voice an issue to Lysander. Boy, what is going on? He waited for a response, a frown on his facade. He needed his sleep, and times such as these were things he would refuse to deal with unless a good reason surfaced. Here lies the King, forever loyal until he dies...

Lorkan heard his father's voice and whimpered excitedly, but he was sure to remain exactly where he was, safe on solid ground.
Father? Father! It's Lorkan! Come out of that terrible chasm!
He fidgeted from paw to paw, standing as tall as his lanky frame allowed, his golden orbs searching feverishly for any sign of movement from the murky depths.

Here lies the King, days of old reflected in his eyes. Faris' ears flickered as he heard his other son, the owner of the yelp. Normally he would have been happy, even proud, that his son had come for him. The wound of depression was too deep, and his heart could not find the glee he would have had. I have tried, and failed. He was far from optimistic. If it were Larka calling to him, he would have lept the mountains to greet her. His heart sank further, his eyes narrowing and threatening to glaze with the loss of life. Here lies the King, forever loyal until he dies...

Lorkan looked uncertainly from his brother to Cloud, and then back down into the chasm.
Father? I came to rescue you..I...its been so long since I have seen you...Mother...
he broke off his words and backed a few steps away from the chasm, hurt that his father was not as pleased to see him as lorkan was to see his father.
Mother is hurt...she couldn't make it this far...Please come out...
His golden gaze had clouded slightly, but he still held hope that Faris would want to see him after most of his life had passed without him.

I’m the warrior of life, I know the reaper by name. Rhys watched in his normal silence as he let the family take hold of the situation. His heart quickened when he saw Lorkan begin to slip, and took a few paces forward before he saw Lysander grab his brother, painfully, by the front of the tail. He left out a breath of utter relief, not wanting the other brother in the chasm with his father, or even possibly falling on top of him and crushing him. Everyone was all right... Faris just had to get out.
Auds twitched as they heard the bit of conversation go on. However, Faris' tone prodded at something in him. Rhys caught hold of an anger he hadn't felt in quite some time, or possibly never. He neared the chasm, hackles raised. He found a spot where he was sure that the older brute could see him and that was secure. Faris! Where is that haughty pride you had when you were with Larka? Is she the only crutch you have for life? He attempted to keep his teeth from being shown, but the annoyed growl was obvious and audible. I certainly hope not. You have two sons and a daughter who still care for you. All is not lost. Come up here and continue your legacy, even if it is not what you hoped for.
The black brute hoped he had been convincing enough. He did not want to see Lorkan crushed by his father. The disappearance itself was enough to do that. And if Lorkan was crushed, he was certain that Cloud would follow suit in some way, knowing that they were at least friends. Come up here and face the clan again. The only thing that can make up for your disappearance is your arrival back. My blood's running cold; I see pain wherever I go…

Here lies the King, days of old reflected in his eyes. Faris' eyes returned to normal as he heard the sadness in Lorkan's voice. Had he really meant that much to him? Lysander had stayed and kept him alive... how were they so loyal to a father they didn't know?
The silver brute's eyes turned as he saw a shadow at the peak of his cage. He was something fierce... who was he? The voice revealed it all as a scowl began to form at Rhys' words. He did not know what it was like to sit in a pit for moons on end and suffer through hunger knowing that your son was starving just so he could be fed. He didn't know what it was like to be helpless to assist the rest of the clan because of one fault of being careless. And here I am, getting lectured by a child. Faris growled at himself as he pushed himself into a standing position.
He backed up to one end of the chasm, looking at the rock wall he had to scale. Now that we have some actual power here, perhaps I can make it. Faris said more to himself than to anyone up top. His eyes scanned the area where he would need to place his paws. Now, usually when I try this I can get to the top, but there's not enough leverage for me to jump out. Two of you stand about where Rhys is, make sure it's stable, and be ready to grab my upper front legs when I reach for you.
He hoped it would work. That's all he could do. At this point he was sort of weak from not being fed enough, but his body had adjusted so now he was speedier. Perhaps it would give the edge he needed to finally make it out of the hole. Here lies the King, forever loyal until he dies...

Lorkan Wavered his plume and shot a grateful glance at Rhys for saying the words that he wouldn't have dared.
Faithfully, he took up a position about a wolf's width away from Rhys, his jaws and muscles tensed, anticipating the springing power of his father.

Cloud felt her heart nearly slip from its place in her chest when Lorkan, being adventurous, edged too close to the chasm. She yelped aloud for fear of him falling, but couldn't move fast enough to help. But this new wolf, apparently his brother, was there, and Lysander pulled him free of the dangerous situation. The she-wolf huffed, irked at her reaction, and moved closer to the shaken young male. Her nose touched his shoulder, a grumbling deep in her chest chastising him for his carelessness, and then pricked her ears when she heard the alpha male, his father, speak.
The white fem stepped back again then as the plans were made to free Faris, for she wasn't as strong as the brutes and could be little help to them in pulling the fallen wolf out. She would only be in the way if she tried, so Cloud's agile frame stepped back from the action to give them room to maneuver.
