(This is just a tester post for examples.) C A R R I C K The season of fall was once again upon the island, changing the leaves from emerald to amber in a matter of days. Already the forest floor was carpeted with the fallen ones, and the large wolf that tread through them had felt a few brush his back during their fall. He lifted his nose into the air, inhaling, and realized that he was once again alone. The wolves of the forest kept to themselves, as was often the case, but it didn't faze him. He was used to it. Carrick shook his head and continued on, grumbling to himself. Where are the almighty alpha pair, now, hmm? He hadn't seen them in at least a season. Their cubs, too, he had only caught traces of their scent. It was strange how they had once been so powerful, so together, but now... nothing.

A female pad through the Ravilin forest. Her golden eyes, took in the appearance of the trees. She'd never much considered herself a true part of the Ravilin pack. Except for when she first joined. She had slowly distanced herself from the clan, unintentionally. She'd tried to bridge the gap before, and managed to find a friend in another like herself. Carrick.
She rubbed her side against one of the trees, scratching an itch, and getting bits of bark in her crème colored fur. She caught the scent of another wolf, and prepared herself to go the opposite way. The scent, however, was familiar. Someone she wouldn't want to avoid. She walked forward, worming her way between the trees silently. She'd learned the way to not be heard on her approach in the forest. The quiet trees had helped her. Her teachers. She turned around the trunk of another tree, and spotted the wolf she sought.
Carrick. She called, her eyes watching the figure. Her banner swayed slightly, and she half smiled. I thought it was you. You remember me, don't you? Zena stood staring at the only wolf who she'd really ever considered herself friends with.

Carrick's ears had warned him, moments before she appeared, that another wolf was approaching through the foliage. He paused, glanced around, and at that moment the young she-wolf chose to reveal herself from behind a rather large trunk. His eyes fell upon her and at first he almost didn't recognize the pretty she-wolf, now in her prime even as he wasn't anymore. Zena, he rumbled happily. Of course I remember you.
He didn't hesitate the close the distance between them, and he nudged her shoulder with his snout affectionately. It has been far too long since I last laid eyes on you, my friend. How are you? The large wolf stepped back again, watching her, fully appreciating that this was the only wolf in the forest that he truly considered himself to be close to.

Zena smiled, and nuzzled his shoulder in return. Her golden orbs lighting with happiness. Indeed it has Carrick. Far, far too long. She looked him over, noting that he had aged some since their last meeting. Nothing about his appearance suggested that he wasn't capable however, and he was still a handsome wolf.
Zena herself had aged, finally coming into true adult maturity. Not that it meant much. She was never around any other wolves enough to develop the desire to mate. To her it meant she could run faster, and handle bigger prey. I have been well, Thanks you. She smiled. I've mostly just been wandering around the Ravilin forest on my own, She chuckled a little. not that that's really any surprise. What about you? How have you been keeping yourself? You haven't gotten into trouble without me have you?
She grinned jokingly, referring to the time they'd been reprimanded for not coming to an Alpha's call. She hoped it wouldn't affect her friend negatively to say that. She'd only wished to joke.

Carrick snorted irately at her comment, although he certainly wasn't angry at her. No, fortunately I haven't seen any others in many moons, either. Perhaps, though, that is for the best... He trailed off, remembering once again how he had last seen Larka and Faris, both turned against him, for some civil crime he could hardly put to any worth these days. I've just been on my own, like usual, waiting for something to happen. Things can get so very dull in this forest once you've lived here alone long enough.

[glow=teal,2,300] Zena[/glow] Zena nodded. Yes, that's what I've been waiting for too. After a while just roaming and listening to the trees becomes a bore. She shook her pelt, clearing it of any leftover bark. So I suppose that means you haven't heard anything from the Alpha pair? She knew the answer, though she asked anyway. The pack is drifting apart...and the Alpha pair are not to be seen. What is to become of the Ravilin?

The pack has been drifting apart for a long time, haven't you seen that? Since... for me, Larka and I fell out. No, I haven't seen either of them, nor scented them, although I'm roamed more to the north of our territory. The scents up there remind me... of where I was born. Another life, that was. A long time ago. He could barely remember the strangeness of the wolves that lived in the far northern islands. But that wasn't here or now, and the older brute saw the truth in Zena's bright young eyes even as he hated to admit it. Unless more outsiders join us, or the alphas reappear and mate, our clan shall very soon be dying out.

[glow=teal,2,300] Zena[/glow] Zena shrugged her shoulders. I suppose I've tried to keep myself from admitting that. I hoped the problem was just with me, not the clan. She sighed at what he said next. I don't want that to happen, Carrick. I don't want the Ravilin to dissapear... She shook her head. Isn't there something we can do?

Carrick didn't respond for a moment. Instead, he glanced off into he trees, remembering a winter that had taken place several years before. He shook himself, coming back from the memory, and wondered if the rest of his life was to be like this - all memories melting into the present.
There is nothing we can do. His tone brooked no argument. Perhaps, if we scent mark the borders enough, others will know we are here and will come to become part of a pack already established. The problem with that, though, was that the alphas didn't seem to be around to accept the new members into the clan.

(OOC: Sorry it took so long to reply Kaz. I had three tests I had to study for. =P Fun, Fun.) [glow=teal,2,300] Zena[/glow]
Zena's tail drooped at his statement. His offer about scent marking made her perk up a bit, though. I suppose we can try. Maybe it'll inspire the Alphas to return. As if on cue, the unmistakable call of Larka rang out. Zena's ears jerked toward the call, taking in all of the message.
The creme fem looked to Carrick. She was in no haste to anger the Alphess again for not responding. Shall we find her together, Carrick? I've no wish to go alone again just yet. Despite not wanting to anger the Alphess Zena also had no desire to abandon her only friend for someone she was not close to.
You'll travel with me to find her, won't you, Carrick?

Carrick looked at Zana for a moment as Larka's call rang out, and his ears swiveled about wearily. For now, yes, I will come with you. He didn't know about his long term goals, but at least Larka seemed to be back - and just as he was thinking that she was gone for good this time. Perhaps now the clan could rebuild, though. He, negative attitude and all, doubted it. Lead the way.

[glow=teal,2,300] Zena[/glow] Zena nodded to Carrick and took off at a swift trot. I wonder how many others there will be? She thought, her golden orbs full of curiosity.
