It's clear and cold today... I wonder where my next meal will come from
The ambling wolf thought as he made his lazy way over to the dry, fallen tree log. The log was several feet away from his position and seemed small from the distance, but his senses told him it was much bigger than he thought. he looked it over to check for danger and saw none, so he studied the log.
It had no vegetation but around where it was scorched by a merciless lightning bolt from a storm long ago.
He carefully crosses over the twigs and leaves towards his target, careful to not alert any potential food...or aggressors to his presence. Once near a low enough sag in the trunk, he positions himself next to the dry, brittle end of the log, and hops up on top and partly claws up the rest, displaying his well toned muscles in actions. Once on top, he uses this opportunity to scan the area, hoping to see a doe. He peered around the area until he was satisfied there was nothing near enough to catch easily.
The rush of insects attracts his attention once again and begins to pad down the log trying not to crush the growing mushrooms and the rush of frenzied insects fighting over their territory.
Once reaching his destination, the other side of the log, he nimbly turns around on the log and looks down to watch in mild interest at the war below him as this has been the only form of entertainment hes had all day.
Hmm, the scent of another's territory is getting closer. Perhaps ill try and join this clan... His ears pick up on the sound of a snapping twig very close by and jolts him from his thoughts and puts him on alert. He instantly calculates the distance form him and the sound and judges its close enough to be his next meal. He cautiously looks down from his perch and sees a grazing doe a mere feet from the log, unaware of his presence since the wind is blowing his scent upwind of it. If he could, he would have smiled.
He pounces from on top of the log and gracefully rebounds off the ground into a lunge at the doe. The doe hearing the sound of his impact on the ground, was alerted and had enough time to dodge him, scrambling away.
This is my best chance at filling my belly Felanx tenses his muscles and sharply corrects his course to follow the doe as he lands from the failed lunge. Keeping his piercing green eyes on the doe and adjusting his stride to keep up with the doe I'm not going hungry today
The doe jumps over bushes and darts around trees, hoping to lose the persistent wolf, but to no avail. it isn't gaining but it isn't losing it either. As a last ditch effort it turns sharply and pumps its legs as fast as it will go.
Felanx continues to chase the doe but then an overpowering smell hits him and he breaks the chase, watching the doe turn sharply and darts away.
Oh no, this is not how i wanted this to happen he murmurs to himself, suddenly aware that he crossed the boundary and is now deep within the territory. He stops and adopts a submissive stance, staying alert, waiting for the heck's fury of whats about to come next.
