The young black wolf loped into the meadow with his tassel arched above his back and his head held proudly. The summer months were long, but soon the autumn and winter would come upon the island again. He paced deeper in the grasslands, reveling in the scent of the wildness. He had been in the southern part of the island for a season or two, wandering where his whims took him. Yet for all of the south he had missed the north and it's chilled winds that blew off the mountains. He preferred, overall, the foothills to the plains.
And so Thaddeus, now a handsome wolf in his prime, had come back to the region of his birth. He was only a day's journey from the Ravilin Forest, and although part of him wondered how things faired for his family that lived there, another part of him remembered the last time he had tried talking to those within it's borders. Rude brutes, the lot of them. He snorted, smiling. Ah well, life's better for me as I am.

Scathe
A muscular brute trot over the grasses of the Atyka. His gray eyes scanned the horizons while his nose took in the scents of the new land. He's been on this Island a short time, but the open unclaimed lands were blessing to him. Having left his overcrowded, and badly lead, pack in hopes of finding or perhaps making a new one he was exploring the lands. His peppered form was a quick blur among the lands.
The scent of another reached his muzzle, and he stopped. Raising his muzzle to the sky he took in everything he could gather about this wolf. He was an adult male, and from what his scent offered, lone.He knew not if the male was friendly, but trot after the scent anyway. He could see the wolf in the distance, and knew for sure the wolf could hear him coming. He got as close as he wished to be, and stopped to look over the male.
His gray eyes studied the other loner and eventually he deemed the wolf worthy of speaking with, I am Scathe. He said, his voice neither loud nor quiet. I am new to these lands. Whom are you? His ears flicked and he turned his head to glance at the moving grasses in a sudden breeze. Slicing down over his right eye was an old scar. It spoke of his past, something he liked well forgotten.

Thaddeus was idly standing, gazing out into the distance, when the form of another dark hued wolf took shape and approached him. His body stiffened, naturally, since he did not know the other or its intentions. His strange, almost khaki colored orbs followed the stranger's progress until he was almost twenty meters away... but then Thad had decided that while the other's form was not necessarily open and friendly, it didn't read as an attack or aggressive mode, either.
The black wolf's ears pricked when the other spoke, and although Thaddeus was well versed in the accents of the islands, he didn't recognize this one, or his scent. I can tell, he rumbled in response, his voice light and kind. Scathe, my name is Thaddeus, and I am not new to these lands at all. He blinked, humorously, and perked his head to the side. For what reason do you approach me?

Scathe
Scathe nodded to the name of the male, and watched the wolf tilt his head. When he said he was, indeed, of the Island Scathe felt relieved. He allowed his tail one swish, looking the wolf over again. Thaddeus, I was hoping you might tell me what you know of this Island. Perhaps tell me where the borders to clan lands lie. Who the rulers are, how many members. I've been here very little time and do not wish to wear my paws when I could simply ask another. Scathe glanced around the terrain again. He liked the look of this land.
A gentle meadow, to his knowledge free to loners. Would the rest of the land be as welcoming? He thought of his previous lands, clans border to border. Vicious and untrustworthy. Scathe himself was hard to earn trust from, but he was nothing compared to what his other clan mates had been. This wolf before him still did not have his trust just yet. Scathe believed in proving oneself. He too saw the opposite side, and knew he had yet to prove himself too.
He gave a wolven grin. You, Thaddeus, are what I was hoping to be the time saving way to go about things. Scathe found the ease to which the wolf accepted his presence refreshing, perhaps the others were as easy going.

The black wolf gave a half smile, his eyes watching the other curiously still. I can help you indeed, then. I was born on this island, in one of the two packs, no less. My history may bore you, though, so I'll skip it. He shook his head and pricked his ears off toward the northeast, where in the distance trees created a natural border on the edge of the meadow. There, not far into the trees, lie the markers of the Ravilin clan. As to how many members they have now, I don't know. I haven't gone too close to their borders for several seasons. The last time I did, I nearly found myself in a fight with a much bigger alpha wolf, even though I only sought information concerning my siblings.
His eyes narrowed as he considered that ill-fated meeting. He then turned his head slightly, to glance over his shoulder into the northwest direction. There mountains arched across the sky, and even from the distance between the meadow and their peaks, they looked like behemoths. Toward the mountains is the Kameskai clan. They are of a friendlier sort than the Ravilins. He grunted, laughter subdued within his chest. I don't know their numbers either, for I've been down in the southern parts of the island. It's all free land down there. No one has laid claim to anything in many, many seasons... more than my lifetime, three times over I believe. He wondered what the stranger would do with the information. Thad was always willing to talk about his island, as he thought of it. Perhaps Scathe couldn't have found a better companion.

Scathe
Scathe nodded at each new tidbit of information. He gazed at the Ravilin border, then toward the Kameskai. Mountain and forest lands for clan homes. Different. His interest was caught on the lands that had had no leader for a long time, but he didn't show it just yet.
Growing even more fond of the dark wolf, Scathe smiled a bit. Thank you, Thaddeus. He resisted the urge to comment on the Alpha male in his normal sarcastic way. He held himself back, not wishing to make his guide angry then glanced around once again. I...have not hunted in a while, would you like to join me? We can bring something down, in exchange for more information about what you remember about the Clans and the Island itself. While we hunt you can tell me all the choice spots for game, where water runs...small details.
He shrugged, watching Thaddeus with his sharp grey eyes. You do not have to, if you have other plans. I already owe you for your provided information. I would appreciate the company, though. The help too.

Bring something down in exchange for information. That's ears swiveled to the side of his head and he blinked, glancing away. The brute was information hungry... and while normally Thaddeus didn't have a problem giving freely the knowledge he possessed away, this time something was different and it made him want to hold back - for now.
I'm afraid I hunted myself, not long ago. There are remnants of my kill nearby, so I am set for a few days, so far as hunting goes. He stepped sideways, energy filling his paws as he thought of the things he intended to do in the meadows... starting with, looking for his father. Unfortunately I have plans, also. It was nice meeting you, though, Scathe. That part was true enough.
The black wolf turned and at first trotted away, but as he put more distance between himself and the other brute his paws began to move quicker and he found he was flying across the land, into the open meadows and away from Scathe and his... probing questions.

Scathe nodded respectfully as Thaddeus declined his invitation. Once the wolf was gone, however he growled to himself. His temper rose, as he snarled at the sky. He glared off in the direction Thaddeus had run, not really angry at the wolf, more angry at having lost his information.
His fur raised on his back and he slashed the ground with his claws in a digging motion. A sound, far to his right, caught his attention and he turned his gray orbs on that. A rather fat hare sat nibbling on some greens. Stupid and fat. Scathe thought bitterly to it, turning carefully. He raised his lip at the animal, ready to take his aggression out the hare. He took off silently, his pillars strong and fast. The rabbit noticed him later then he would have thought and the smell of it's fear hit him as it began to run away. He gave a feral snarl. Chasing the creature over the meadow lands, he watched it slowly panic more and more. T
he rabbit seemed to stumble, and Scathe pounced as it gave a screech. He took it in his jaws, severing it's neck. It hung limp in his jaws and he shook it viscously. He released it and let it fly and thud to the ground a bit away. Padding over to it with a growl, he settled down and tore into it. He ate it with a grumble, unsure how to find information now. He sighed as he ate his meal. He'd lost his temper. He knew how to control himself, and he could when around others. Alone, however, he sometimes didn't have the want to do it.
