Cassiel moved at a steady lope, not looking back for Luma, for he knew she would follow him. He was headed out toward the borders to intercept his clan mates. They had been marking and remarking their territory's edges for days now, and it was time to gather to exchange scents and hunt together.
As he neared where he thought they may be, he paused often and checked scents. The brute wanted to come upon them from downwind so that he might watch them for a while before approaching them or letting them know he was there. He had done this often enough before, but with new wolves in the clan it was important to him to see how the pack interacted without his watchful brown eyes upon them. Wolves acted differently around their alphas sometimes, after all.
The white brujo finally scented them, and falling into their tracks near the southern border, he moved north. Thankfully, he realized, he was indeed downwind. He continued along, checking the smells they left behind and learning about Jaden and Keeya more as he read their individual marks. Finally he crested and rise and ducked down, lowering himself the earth so that he wouldn't be seen from a distance. They were together down in a valley-like depression below him, and Cassiel smiled as he watched them interacting, like a proud father... which really, he was.
Keeya and Basile were walking together, apparently speaking, and Aisha was very comfortable with Jaden's close proximity, which made the pale alpha snort, but in an approving sort of way. She was his sweet little daughter, after all. A new creature walked next to his son, and Cass assumed it had to be Feria, the newcomer.
After many long minutes of crouching on the ridge line, he stood up and lifted his head to call out to them. My proud clan mates, come! A hunt begins soon! He wavered his tail and pricked his ears, finding himself much happier than he thought he would be after not having found his mate.

F É R I A In my field of paper flowers And candy clouds of lullaby

Her dreams were of winter, of the dazzling array of intricate snowflakes and endlessly dunes of brilliant white. Basile’s words of a heavy winter had unfolded a saga amidst her mind, for it had been far too long since she had played joyfully amongst the winter snowfall. She wondered too, of the other members of the pack she longed to join, of their character and their zeal. She hoped upon hope that they would be kind to her, and accept her into their ranks. Far too many vicious loners had she met along her pathway that led here to this island, their nature had nearly discouraged her from seeking out others. Her stride was bouncy as she bumbled along, curiously sniffing from time to time at a flower and oddly shapen rock, for in all things she found wonder and a sense of newness.
Out of nowhere a voice rose above the wind. The authority of power echoing in his words causing tingles to rupture down her spine. Her pate whipped around in the direction of the voice, soft eyes searching out the ridge overhead. Her heart raced with excitement and awe as she gazed up at the sage appearance of this white wolf. She did not heed his words immediately, straying a bit back as she waited for the rest of the wolves to go ahead of her. After all this was their alpha, she was sure of it. She would take her place following them, the soft russet hues of her coat sashaying in the light breeze. She wished to meet him yes, but the nervousness of the shy creature had gripped her, fearing their brave elder would find fault in her and turn her away.

(Combined. All three wolfehs.) Luma pad after Cassiel, she kept a steady lope, but didn't try to catch up to Cass. She watched his white form travel gracefully over the land, and felt a smile light upon her maw. She took great pride in her lands, and her Alpha. It was not hard to see Cassiel was a handsome beast. She followed a short distance behind and paused in her step as she watched Cassiel stop. She watched as he crept up to a hill and watched his clan. She supressed a chuckle, seeing he looked like a pup. She shook her head, and joined in the last notes of Cassiel's call. She didn't say anything, just added her voice to his song. She then trot up to stand beside him, looking at the Kameskai clan before her. She smiled happily. We're growing again.Basile, having answered Feria's question had resumed his walking. His ears flicked to and fro, looking for sounds. When his Father's voice rose behind he spun, his banner falling to apporaiate rank. He gave a small smile, and looked to Keeya. Come Keeya. Cassiel, Father, is back! He took off at a trot to reach his Father's side. Aisha, having been waiting for Jaden's reply was surprised by Cassiel's call. She jumped and spun around with a happy yip. Her banner went up and began wagging. She took off, running to Cassiel's side. Daddy! She yipped touching her nose to his cheek. I'm so happy you're back!

Keeya opened her mouth into a wide grin. Feeling strangely inflated that Basile had acknowledged her, called only to her; she followed the rest of the wolves forward, her tail held respectfully low, a shine in her eyes. A hunt, he said! Now that all the introductions had been made, the pack had reassembled to some degree, and there was time for planning ahead, time for the clan to strengthen their bonds, and more importantly, time for hunting. She whapped her tail against her legs excitedly. Sir, are we really... have you... She cleared her thoughts, gulping down air in a frenzy. Have you caught sight of prey recently? Keeya wondered if the pack would be able to run down prey, if they would be able to ignite loyalty and trust within themselves and their pack in time for the winter. She remembered a tale her mother had told her, about a pack that had held loose bonds between its members, a pack that was filled with suspicion and threats, which had ultimately led to their destruction. It would be a role, an important task for her to get to know these others inside-out and back-to-front if she was to integrate fully into the pack. Start with Basile, a small voice inside her head demanded immediately, shockingly. The silver female turned her head slowly, examining each wolf in turn. Her blue eyes rested on the dark male’s figure longest, and, once she realised this, turned away, embarrassed. She searched her mind for something to say, something to do, and remembered the female Feria. Turning back a little, she appeared at the shy wolf's side. Hello, she said energetically, then remembering her resolution to get to know the others, continued, Can you run?

Basile chuckled at Keeya's eagerness. His green orbs watched her address his father, asking of prey. He turned his orbs to Luma, who stood readily at his Father's side. He was fond of the beta and nodded to her. It was weird to him though, to see anyone other than his Mother beside Cassiel. He realized it was not as if they stood together as Alpha and Alphess, but still… He couldn't help but feel the sensation of something so different sweep over him. He looked to his Father's proud form and realized his Mother’s continued absence. Where is Mother? He thought, his orbs becoming confused. Has she truly gone? What will we do without her? What will Father do? Basile realized, deep in his heart that Cassiel would eventually take another mate. It was his duty as Alpha to provide pups for the next year. He shook his head slightly, wishing the thoughts away. Then he felt the orbs of another wolf lingering on his pelt. He shook himself as he turned his orbs to Keeya. She acted with an air of embarrassment as she turned to Feria and addressed her with her favorite question. He trot to her side, seeing as Cassiel seemed to be looking over the new members. What were you staring at Keeya? He asked, half-teasing for he wasn't sure it'd been her. Still, he thought, or perhaps merely hoped it had been. He rubbed his shoulder against hers and smiled. Is that all you think of? Running?

Keeya looked up as a warm body brushed against hers, and saw Basile once more at her side. Just can’t shake him off, she thought, feeling warm on the inside. Young, watchful eyes observed the male’s change in mood as he glanced at the alpha and beta standing together. They hadn’t found the alphess. The disappointment of the more experienced pack members was hanging in the air. Basile’s mother, he’s missing his mother Keeya realised suddenly, much to her amusement. He acts strong and as though he has to watch all our backs, but he’s really just a soft-belly. Turning away from Feria slightly, she addressed his questions. Why do you mark territory? Share scents? Is it not to gain knowledge of the others, to let them know that you are there and that you will not be moved? Tilting her head further towards him and lowering her voice dramatically, she continued, with a wry grin on her face and I like to win. This was, of course, the force that drove her, that caused her to aim higher and higher, but she felt she had said enough already. Shifting her weight from one paw to the other, Keeya wondered what she could say in response to Basile’s first question. She lifted her head to peer behind him, searching for something in the distance that could cover for her, provide an excuse. There were trees, and rocks, but they were a part of most landscapes around these parts. And then… and then there was…a… a blur of movement in the corner of her eye, a flutter of wings as a raven landed in the bracken and started digging its beak in something. Melodramatically dropping to a crouch position, she whispered a poem her father had taught her to Basile, joyfully realising as she did so the added meaning it held for the dark wolf in regards to his pelt colour, O brother raven, raven wings on silent air, fly me to the moon, let me witness its splendour, and I will be your brother. Raven brother: let us fly together . As she was mid-sentence, the female pounced forward towards the unsuspecting bird, causing it to fly off in alarm. She followed it half-heartedly for a few paces, and then decided that that was sufficient enough distraction for Basile for her to be rid of the question. She hadn’t remembered the poem, the song, fully, and doubted that she had recited it as it deserved to be, but a single line netted itself, caught itself in her brain and circled around and around, Let us fly together, let us fly

(That was an amazing last post for Keeya, just saying ) Cassiel laughed with happiness as the members of his clan gathered and milled around him, and he felt buoyed up by their growing numbers and the strands of unity he felt running from member to another. He reached out to his daughter Aisha and nuzzled her again, feeling a slight twinge of jealousy as he glanced back to the one she had stood beside moments before, Jaden. The darker colored wolf was handsome for a brute though, and Cass knew she could do much worse in choosing another to pad after.
He glanced toward Basile and Keeya and saw there another growing bond, and then his eyes fell upon the newcomer, Feria, that Basile and Luma had accepted. His banner lifted behind him, and he approached her, wading through the pelts of his clan mates with a glint in his brown eyes. You were accepted by my family, let me see if they have chosen well. Cass stepped closer, his nose extending to inhale her scent, perhaps learn something about her. She was younger, but not too young. In her prime or preparing to be there soon. The Kameskais could always use another strong member. And maybe, he thought with an amused look at Keeya, she can run.
He stood stiffly beside her, rumbling. I am the leader of these mountains, and I have found you to be worthy of joining us. Welcome to the Kameskai. Any who oppose my decision will deal with my fangs.
With the ritual over with, he stepped back and threw his muzzle into the air. I have not seen any prey yet, but we will find some! Come... and we will run. The white wolf suddenly leapt through the others, past them, and deeper in their lands. He didn't want to be too near the markers when they found prey, for fear of having to chase it into the open expanse of the distant meadows. First to scent the prey will get first bite when we bring it down! he yipped, most uncharacteristically. Yet he was excited, happy to be running with his family, happy they were almost all together.

A hunt! Jaden thought to himself. How many gifts can this pack offer me in one day? He nudged Aisha playfully, shooting her a warm glance. Are you coming? He asked, bounding once around her, Or waiting for all of your suitors to bring you you meal? He joked, nudging her once more before racing after Cassiel into the territory of his pack.
When the pack had been gathered, he noted the place that the beta had occupied. Directly beside the ivory male. He recalled a mention of an Alphess, but she was obviously nowhere to be found, as she had not gathered for the hunt. Although there was no Alphess around, Jaden knew well that an Alpha was never without a mate for long. This Luma figure seemed to be the only choice the male really had, that is if he wanted somebody in his pack that he knew well and was not related to him. If, this mating season, Cassiel took her as his mate, the beta position would be wide open! A wide smile, one that could have very easily been mistaken for joy of the hunt, lit his yellow eyes like suns. Basile was always a likely choice for the position, but a Beta must always be considered both firm and just. An idea that had been playing on the outskirts of Jaden's consciousness burst into full view. If the Old Male believes Basile to be biased against me, and that I am a good mate for his young Aisha... He shook the thought away. Not now. Not at this moment. Cassiel hardly knew anything about his aside from that he was humble, strong, and was favored by Aisha. He would have to show him his many other charming qualities before he could get any deeper into his plan. One must reach the river before crossing it! Even if it was a rather shallow river...

Artist: entaie.deviantart.com/ Luma smiled at the gathered wolves, but did not miss Basile's gaze on her. She gave his turned head a confused look. The nature of the gaze was not out of anger, but there was a certain quality to it that Luma was unsure of. Perhaps she would mention it to Cassiel later, or maybe even talk to Basile himself. She watched Basile interact with Keeya and thought it good for him to have someone to be close to. She loved little Aisha, but also knew the fem was very tiring sometimes. Keeya seemed a much better fit. She then allowed her glance to travel with her thoughts to the young fem. She had run up to Cassiel greeting him as always. She smiled, feeling it reach her yellow orbs. Cassiel then made his way to Feria and Luma felt herself swell with pride. Now everyone was Kameskai officially. This was her family. When Cassiel leapt away and began to run calling back to them she heard him yip. She gave a laugh, and leapt after him giving a little howl as she raced after Cassiel's form. She remembered her own first hunt with the Kameskai. That seemed so long ago. She shook her head, finding the present a much happier place for once.

Basile could only smile and shake his head. He did notice she never answered the question about the staring, but he let it go. He watched her creep up on the raven, reciting the poem. He found that he liked it, and watched the bird fly off even after Keeya had returned. When Father made his way through the wolves Basile smiled to Feria. Welcome packsister. He said rubbing his shoulder against hers. Then Cassiel leapt away from them and Basile resited the urge to jump right after. He looked to Keeya. I believe that's you, Keeya. He nudged her smiling. He then turned to gesture to Feria, not wanting her to be left out. Let's go! However, before leaping forward he looked to Keeya and gave her a playful grin. Let us fly together. He said, half-whispering it to her before jumping after his father. He felt s blush trying to creep under his fur. He fought it off. He was only being playful, right?

Aisha nearly danced with happiness, waiting for her Father to lead the hunt. She yipped when Feria was formally accepted and her banner waved. She giggled when Cassiel leapt away, giving a yip of his own. She watched his receding form, and the forms of Luma and Basile. She felt a nudge and turned to stare into the beautiful orbs of Jaden. She laughed, her eyes sparkling warmly with affection. It was me he chose to nudge, me he wants to insure is running with him. She felt herself swell with joy as he added his second remark. Suitors, Jaden? I think you have mistaken me for another. When he leapt away, she did too not a moment later. She reached his side again, running after the graceful form of Cassiel. She noted that he smiled not long after, and fancied that it was because of her. That his orbs had lit up so because she now ran beside him. She smiled widely, nudging his shoulder mid-run and using her legs to power ahead of him. She may have trouble stopping, but she definitely knew how to gain speed.

Cassiel's body stream out ahead of his family, a white blur leading them into the meadows in the foothills of their mountain home. The day was gorgeous, and the chill in the air was just enough to make the brute appreciate his new winter coat. The autumn had well and truly arrived, and he reveled in the strength he felt in his muscles as he squared off to face the coming winter. They were stronger this year than they had been in seasons, and together they could take anything on.
New wolves, new friends, new mates, he thought, glancing over his shoulder to see the dynamics of his offspring and the newer wolves. He smiled to himself, and then caught his eyes roving to find his companion, Luma. Run beside me, pack sister and friend. He lifted his tassel and put on a burst of speed, stretching his form out completely as he dashed along. His nose turned up, scenting the air, and he caught a faint hint of caribou on it. He didn't signal out to the others that he had found it, though. He would have first bite normally, anyway. He wanted one of the younger wolves to find it and take pride in helping to provide for their clan.

She wants a race, does she? he laughed softly, slightly enjoying this little moment, oddly enough, for what Aisha saw it to be. He bounded forward, yet again, releasing a great burst of speed. He now ran directly beside the bubbly, snow-colored femme. No suitors, eh? he woofed softly, Than I must be the luckiest male in all of Island history. His grin surprised him now, growing slightly wider. He was puzzled about it for a moment, unsure of the expressions origin. He had not accomplished anything, had he? Perhaps he was just pleased with how well he was playing his part... Yes. Surely it was this.
He lifted his nose to the breeze, recalling the Alpha's incentive. At first, he perceived nothing, aside from the usual scents of the season. Yet... something seemed to dance about, just at the edge of unidentifiable scents. Tracking had never been one of his finer points, and it took him a while to turn the fragrance about in his thoughts, figuring it as quickly as he could. It was obviously not wolf, nor bear. That which is not the hunter... he thought to himself, Is clearly the prey... The only question was, what kind of prey? If it was merely small game, the scent wouldn't have stood out, woud it? Certainly not. The scent of moose was very strong, and he would have easily recognized it. it could have been deer, or... Caribou! Yes... that was it! How could he have been so stupid as to not recognize it! He was about to call out, but he caught himself. Nobody liked a show-off. He also would hate to be charged with identifying prey. He normally could never find anything of the sort, unless it was relatively close. It had been sheer luck.
What if Basile announced it? That would be no good for him. Or Keeya? Beaten by a female, and one who neither trusted him nor could improve his ranking in the pack? Either situation would cast him in poor light. What if Aisha found it? It would give him more material to compliment her with, and spring up a conversation with her father. Yes... It would work out nicely.
Aisha, do you smell that? he asked her, giving her chance to lift her nose to the breeze. I think it may be prey, but... I can't seem to place it... A confused look filled his eyes as he met hers, his doubt openly displayed across his face.

(Luma, Basile and Aisha. Lazy now. Lol.) Luma watched as Cassiel turned to admire his new group. She turned her head too for a moment. The new season would be one of celebration. Aisha and Jaden seemed a nice pair. Perhaps pups would come from that. Hopefully. She turned her head, thoughts of Aisha being a mother swirling in her head. How strange will that be? A pup you've helped raise will be mothering pups, while you yourself have yet to. She felt the sting of her own inner thoughts, and her eyes clouded a moment. What I would give for a litter of my own... She thought with a sigh. She heard Cassiel calling to her, and her ears pricked forward the sad thoughts wiped from her mind though not her orbs. She gave a smile, and her banner too raised in happiness. Her silver pillars thrust her across the ground. She raced to his side, extending herself as much as he. She too scented the Caribou and wondered who would be the first to call it out. While she did not eat first normally, she usually ate third. Second now though, she realized sadly. She did not wish to take it from a younger, or newer member. She turned her gaze to Cass. Who do you think will get it?-------------- Aisha raced happily alongside Jaden. When he turned to her and asked her if she scented anything she wrinkled her brow. Smell? Why would I have scented anythi-Oh! A hunt! That's right. We're aren't just running with each other. The last thought was just a bit on the sad side. Another time, I hope. She thought lifting her nose. The scent of prey reached her nose, and her mouth began to water. She'd not had Caribou in such a long time. Yes. I smell it. It's Caribou. Father! I smell Caribou! It's not strong, but it will be! She yipped happily, her banner waving through the air. She looked to Jaden, once again not seeing his actions as a ploy. Her brown orbs shone. Thank you Jaden. For letting me say it. I know you weren't serious about not knowing what it was. You're very sweet. She gave him a lick on the cheek, feeling as if she ran on air. ------ However two other pairs of ears picked up on his remark. Basile for one heard it and felt his lips pull back. He was ahead of the two, but he still had an ear turned to the back. He knew that Jaden couldn't possibly be that daft as to not know the scent of Caribou.
He's planning something. I can feel it. He's warmed to Aisha so quickly. She is lovely, but she isn't what most males look for in a mate. She is not mature yet. What is it that he wants? He turned to look at Jaden, these thoughts pooling in his green orbs. He then turned back around, snorting in disapproval. ---- Luma too had heard Jaden. She however took a more warm hearted approach. How sweet! She thought, for her ear too had been turned back, waiting for the out cry. Jaden let Aisha have the right of first bite. Oh, that's terribly cute. She smiled and laughed and the two young lovers. She looked to Cassiel, knowing she would discuss that with him. If he hadn't already heard, she knew it would probably warm the heart of the Alpha to hear that a male was enamored with his daughter that he allowed her to have the privilege of first bite. Jaden had the makings of a very good mate.

Cassiel's head turned back even as he ran to see his daughter as she yipped out that she had scented the prey. He too had heard Jaden's remarks, and he had also seen Basile's disapproving look and heard his disgruntled snort. Strange that Basile doesn't like him. Once he may not have trusted his dark colored son's instincts, when as a pup he was a bully, but now Cass found himself respecting Basile's remarks and ideas.
He shook his head, clearing it of such thoughts. Instead, he rumbled to Aisha. You scented it and called it first, my dear, take the lead. He slowed his pace up a bit, checking himself to allow his young daughter to by pass him. Just don't go tumbling into the middle of a herd! We don't want to run straight into the kill without a plan, he cautioned.
