Cassiel followed the ridge-lines across his territory, moving with precision through lands known to him for over half of his life. His son had called him, and it made his heart sore with pleasure. They were not all gone, at least. Basil was still in the mountains. Perhaps others, too, were around, but not within hearing range.
The brute had left Jaden to follow him, and as he trekked toward the sound of his son's voice he reflected that he had scented Apoule, too. So that meant Luma, Apoule, and Basil were still within the clan. And Luma had gone to greet a new wolf, a loner, so perhaps that would be as fruitful as his own meeting with Jaden had been. The Kameskais would rise again and become powerful, more powerful than the last time it's members had run together.
Finally the pale wolf paused, realizing it would be better to just call the others to him than for him to go looking for individuals. He glanced back, checking to see if the newly accepted brute had followed, and then lifted back his head to call out. My family, my Kameskains, come. We meet, and we shall become one clan together again.

[glow=White] Aisha[/glow] Aisha raced across the ground, over little rises, down into small dips and out again. She leapt over rocks, and all the while a smile graced her angelic maw.She finally grew close enough that her Father's scent came in strong and powerful. SHe released a whimper of joy. Her and Basile were no longer lost! They'd found Cassiel, her only hope. She knew that once they'd reached his side everything would begin to go back to normal. Her long growing legs thunder over the ground and she stumbled only a few times. She crested a small rise, and saw a white figure in the distance. Her heart leapt with joy, and she released another cry of joy. Daddy! She yipped again, her run slowing, but still fast. When she grew closer to Cassiel, her run was almost to a trot, but still strong. She barreled into her Father feeling his strong body resist her inertia. She began to wiggled and squirm, her tail beating the air at an insane rate. She licked Cassiel's chin, nuzzling his neck and shoulder with fierce admiration and love. Daddy! I've missed you so much! Basi and I have been searching for you for so long. I've been so worried we wouldn't find you Daddy. Cassiel's female copy stared up at him with his own eyes, hers as bright as the suns. [shadow=black] Basile [/shadow] Basile crest the rise just in time to see the ending events of Aisha's reuniting with their Father. Basile thick black banner waved the air. He was happy to have someone to share the protection of Aisha with. He was unsure if he should let her fend for herself, or if things would end like they had before. He knew his Father would take over now. Cassiel knew what to do. He glanced back over his shoulder for Keeya, then continued to head toward Cassiel. Hello, Father, He said. I've missed you.

Keeya Keeya nodded her head at Basile's responses to her questions, too focused on running to verbally acknowledge his answers. She was, however, quite pleased with his answer to her last question, and looked gratefully in his direction. She slowed as the two others ran into their father, the alpha Cassiel. She gasped as she saw his white coat, brilliant against the background of the mountain. Keeya inhaled his scent, making sure to distinguish every part of it, to pull it apart and put it back together again, as she had been taught by her parents. This would allow her to recognise the scent anywhere, to be able to find the pack whenever she needed to. As she watched Aisha greeting the alpha, she realised just how close this pack was, and how much she would have to work in order to fit in with them. She stood behind trio, too shy to approach while they were reuniting themselves.

Cassiel's ears pricked as he heard footsteps rapidly approaching, and just as he scented the air and realized who it was that was bumbling toward him, a pale white coat appeared and nearly slammed into him. He held his ground, releasing a soft 'uph', which was quickly followed by a pleasurable growling. My little angel, dear Aisha, he grumbled, shoving his own dark nose into her fur and face, returning the licks. It had been much too long since he had last seen his beautiful daughter, so much his own for her snowy pelt. You should never hae worried for me, although I worried much over you and your brother both.
The alpha looked up, smiling too, as Basil came into view a few moments behind his overenthusiastic sister. Basil, he said in greeting. His son had grown large and handsome in their time apart, and pride shown in the brute's dark eyes. I've missed you too, my son. Silently he thanked the keepers of the Golden Rivers that his children, two of them at least, were safe and still Kameskain.
His attention was suddenly diverted when the loner came up behind his offspring, tactfully hanging back to give them room to greet each other. The brute nudged Aisha gently, lovingly, before turning his body toward the stranger and bristling along his neck. You carry my children's scents, otherwise I would question why you are here, so deep into mountain territory, he growled, but although aggression was in his voice it wasn't as harsh as it might have been.

[shadow=black] Basile [/shadow] Basile, feeling it his time to take up for Keeya, stepped toward his Father. We met her at the borders Father. She called to the clan respectfully, and we went to greet her. I didn't trust leaving an unknown wolf unanswered at our borders, that is why I didn't leave it to you. He spoke this with his eyes, as he continued to speak. She wished to join us, and...in our given state of regrouping I thought we could use more Kameskai. Her request to join was honest, and true. It rang in her tone. I shared scents with her, hoping to give her a partial pass to find you. She knows her true fate lies with you, and so do I. I was not foolish enough to forget my place, Father. I know who true respect lies with. His pale green orbs were full of admiration for his Father. Cassiel was everything Basile hoped to be one day. A strong, trusted leader. If you wish to be angry at having someone not totally of the pack so far into our lands, then the blame rests on me Father. Do not blame Keeya, or Aisha. [glow=White] Aisha[/glow] Aisha knew her Father was not truly angry, as Basile did. She still felt a need to explain for Keeya though. Basile, however, took it upon himself. Trotting over to the darker wolfs side, she turned to look at Cassiel. We brought her here, Daddy. She's my friend now. Can't she stay...please? Her brown eyes begged her Father. The epitome of puppy dog eyes.

Keeya Keeya gazed nervously into the Apha's eyes, surprised to discover that they didn't look as cold or menacing as his voice sounded. She thrust a grateful glance over towards the siblings as they explained her situation. Sir, she began nervously, What they say is true, and I would give anything to belong to your pack. If... she swallowed a lump in her throat If.. you decide that I should not be here, however, I will be gone before you can raise your hackles. The young female lowered her ears and tail, and stared at the ground. She felt as though she were burning a hole into it with the concentrated effort of appearing humble before the leader. Inside her body, her heart hammered inside her chest, and she began panting anxiously, awaiting the Alpha's desicion.

Cassiel waited until they had finished speaking, imploring him to accept her. His eyes followed Keeya's frame. She was submissive enough, and they could use new members to bolster their ranks. She isn't just "not totally of us", she isn't, Basil, he rumbled. He was having trouble ignoring Aisha's bright and pleading eyes. You did right, though, in bringing her here to meet me. I trust you Basil, and you aren't so young like your brother was when he first thought to do something similar, eh?
The large white wolf approached the newcomer, his eyes wide and challenging, ears pricked forward in aggression and attention. His nose slid along her neck, to her shoulder, as he rubbed his own scent into her pelt. If they see fit to welcome you, Keeya - is it? He thought he had heard his son refer to a "Keeya". Then I do, also. He stepped back, shaking his pelt and glancing around. Now, where are the others?

Artist: entaie.deviantart.com/ Luma ran toward the sound of the howl. The wind blew over the small rolls and dips of the land and she should smell the familiar scent of her family. Aisha, Basile, Cassiel. Perhaps the Kameskai might come back yet. She wondered where the others were. Epitaph, Apoule, Beryl, Rocc, Xander, Revolver...You haven't gone the way of Sierra and dear Riyo have you? She felt a pang in her chest at the name. Little darling Riyo. He'd disappeared before the clan fell into this lapse. Another name crossed her mind, and her lip rose. Duskai... She'd gotten to the point where that name only made her angry. Her past mate. He'd left her, abandoned her. She gave a small snarl at the thought. The scents grew closer, and she noticed one she'd missed. A little female. Slightly scared, submissive no doubt. A new member. Has Cassiel managed to find another member? Her ears perked at this thought. She saw them in the distance and soon closed in on them. Cassiel, excuse my lateness. The loner was honest in his want to join, but he seemed indecisive after a second. I told him if he wished to join, he would follow me now. If he eventually decides to join I told him to call from our borders again. In no way did I give him any excuse to roam our lands, I said exactly otherwise. She nodded, dipping her head to the Alpha. I did not wish to make you wait longer. I hope my choice was correct, Cassiel. Her yellow orbs turned to Basile and Aisha and she gave them each a smile. I hope you've been well over these times you two. Her orbs last landed on Keeya. She tilted her head at the fem. Have we a new member Cassiel? Her eyes were kind, and she smiled at the her.

Cassiel glanced toward Luma's approaching silver form, and he smiled. The she-wolf was good member of the clan, loyal to a fault and kind. He admired her for that; sometimes he felt kindness was the least some creatures deserved. Yet she had learned well from the heartache and loss of her past, and now she was the best beta wolf the pale leader could ask for. He turned toward her and took a few steps, issuing a welcoming rumble.
She explained the situation, and the large wolf nodded. I understand, Luma. You couldn't be expected to wait half the season for him to decide. He will probably be accepted should he ask again, but unless he does... I am not going to wander the boarders waiting for loners. There are other more important things to do within the pack lands.
Cassiel pricked his ears toward the newest wolf, Keeya, and he glanced in her direction again. We have a new member. Her name is Keeya, I believe. He would let Luma introduce herself formally if she wished.

Keeya Keeya bit her lip awkwardly... how could she have been so stupid as to not introduce herself properly. She hung her head in embarrassment as he asked her name. Yes, I'm Keeya, sir she mumbled. Her eyes shone as the alpha shared his scent with her. That was it. She'd been accepted. She glanced up as another wolf approached them. From what she could make out, the newcomer spoke of another loner, and seemed fairly at ease with the great white leader. Her young brain, too inexperienced to deal with what they were talking about, tuned out for severaly minutes, till she realised with a jolt that the two older wolves were looking in her direction. Keeya furrowed her brow, thinking of what they could possibly have to do with her, then realised that she hadn't been introduced to the female. Hello, miss! 'm Keeya. Are you the Alphess? She asked innocently. The female wolf hadn't greeted the Alpha with the sort of gesture that would be expected between mates, but this thought didn't cross the young female's mind until too late. She flattened her ears against her head and apologised sheepishly. I'm sorry... you looked so strong and.. her voice trailed off as she realised how awkward the situation was getting, then she remembered the loner the older female had been talking about, Is there another wolf joining us soon? Where did they come from?

Artist: entaie.deviantart.com/ Luma chuckled at the fem's question. No dear. I am not the Alphess. She shook her head, indicating there need be no apology. I doubt you've met our Alphess, but I take that as a compliment. Our Alphess is named Epitaph and she is a very strong and lovely wolf. I am Luma, the beta of these lands. She took a few steps forward, and nuzzled the fem, sharing scents with her. I sadly do not think the other loner will accept our offer of joining today. I'm not sure where he came from. She turned her yellow orbs to Cassiel. Besides those who are here, have you heard from anyone else, Cass?

Cassiel looked toward Keeya and narrowed his eyes, slightly, as she spoke of his alphess. Luma was an amazing wolf and a wonderful friend, but she would never replace his Epitaph, who he hadn't seen in several moons. It was common for her to be away, for she had always liked to wander and had only joined a clan because he had beseeched her to many seasons before. Yet he missed her terribly.
He kept silent while Luma good-naturedly explained to the younger fem that she was indeed not the alpha female, and his ears twitched at his love's name. Cass looked to Luma again when she questioned him, and he sadly shook his large white head. I have seen no others. They are gone, or wandering far away.

Artist: entaie.deviantart.com/ Luma smiled sadly at Cassiel. She knew not what to tell her Alpha. Even if she hadn't glimpsed the expression of sadness that crossed his face as she spoke of Epitaph, she would already know he was hurting. She thought of her own months missing Duskai. She gave soft sigh, sad to see the wolf she called her best friend missing someone like she had. She reasoned though, that Epitaph may not be gone yet. Unlike Duskai, Cassiel had chosen a true mate. While their Alphess liked to explore and wander, she always returned home to her clan, her family. Luma believed that Epitaph would return to her throne, but she also sympathized with Cassiel. Her yellow orbs spoke this, and she offered his a silent smile. All is not lost yet, Cass. I'm sure they will return. I'm far more sure Epitaph will return. She waved her banner once. Try not to dwell on those feelings of loss, my friend. It is hard, but do try. Take it from me, it only leads you to suffering. She looked at the group, slightly upset that there were only four. Maybe they could roam together, mark the borders stronger. Attract a loner or two. Build themselves back up. She looked to Cassiel, knowing he too must be thinking of what should happen next.

The alpha watched Luma's silent language and nodded in response. I know. Yet sometimes, even knowing, it was difficult. Cass shook his head again and straightened up, looking back at his two children and Keeya. We may not be many, but we are strong. We will find new members, new wolves to join our ranks. Kameskai will become strong. The strongest pack on the island.
With this new goal in mind a rumble began to build in the alpha's chest, and he growled aloud. Kameskai will not fall while I live. He threw back his head and called out, telling the rest of the island the same thing.
When his song fell, he became brisk, issuing orders. Basile and Keeya, go to the borders and refresh our scent marks. If you find any loners, question them and call for me. I will come. The brute knew his son was familiar enough with the territory to travel it by instinct, and marking the borders would help Keeya familiarize herself with them too.
Luma, take Aisha with you and travel inland. Check the territory, look for signs of the others who did not come to the call. He nodded to them and stepped away from the group, continuing. I have my own 'mission'. Cass' eyes glittered, and he offered his family a wolven grin. Call if you need me.
With that the leader set off, moving down the ridge and into a valley, disappearing into the underbrush.

Keeya The female watched as Cassiel disappeared off into the undergrowth, his orders at last sinking in. Grinning wildly, she turned to Basile and crouched down into a pounce position, her tail flailing about in excitement. Basile, Basile! she cired, Let's go. Back legs quivering with anticipation, Keeya lunged forwards towards the male, barely missing crashing into him as she raced off in a random direction. She figured that it wouldn't matter which way she went, she'd know when she reached a border. Raising her head to the sky, she made an "o" with her mouth and called out to Basile. Come on, come one! I'll race you. The rythmn of the wolf's long legs repeatedly striking the ground brought back her competitive spirit, and she grinned cheekily.
