Lorkan nearly pranced as he started to move away, his plume and crania flagged high as the excitement built within him.
I can show both of you around! What do you want to see first? the beach? the meteor? the white cliffs?
Lorkan shut his mouth before he prattled on too much, content to set a smooth pace in circles until Surulian agreed to come as well.

As the gale blew a shifted current of fresh mountain air through the pine labyrinth that spread out around them, so did a new awakening lift within the raven wolf who had lived within the shadows for so very, very long. It was not easy mind you, to relinquish himself to the world once more, allowing time and the ever awaiting future to lay its hands upon his soul. But what was life without living? What was life without chance and having to face the unknown? It was the unknown coupled with the pain of loss that had kept him secluded from the world for so long. Yet even now, in his newly birthed world which shown clearly in the light of day, he felt change coming, and though it frightened him slightly, it excited him. He had a home now… he belonged once more, and perhaps he might make a difference in even the smallest way.
Having turned to his new leader and dipping his head as if to excuse himself, only on the assurance that she would be alright, he turned to Cloud and Larkan with bright eyes alight with longing. He wished to know these mountains as well as the rest of his pack did, to breathe its essence and take it into himself and make it a part of him. His lushly full tail swayed with eagerness as his stride bounded a few steps towards them, stopping only briefly to turn back to Larka, concerned as to her injuries but knowing the a wise one such as she seemed would know when to ask for help should she require it. His gaze moved back to the two that would become their small party.
“I would love to come to know my new home better, and perhaps find others who are wandering apart from us. The journey shall be refreshing.”

Cloud glanced back over her shoulder at Lorkan and Surulian, offering a gentle but friendly smile at the younger brute's excitement. What are the white cliffs? I've never heard of such... or this - meteor? A puzzled look crossed her ivory face. It doesn't matter, let's just run, and whichever direction we go, you can show us what's there. She swished her tail and shook her head, eyes sparkling with newfound energy as Lorkan's joy transfered over to her as well. Come on, let's go!

Lorkan waved his plume excitedly, play-bowing momentarily before he raced north, into the denser woodlands. Weaving this way and that, he stuck his muzzle high into the air occasionally, scenting for the acidic sulfurous smell of the meteor. As the wind shifted he caught the faint traces of it and headed in a steady northeastern direction.
Seeing the toppled and charred trees Lorkan slowed his manner became somber and awed at the same time. No matter how many times he traveled to this location it still fascinated him. There the meteor still sat, an iron colored craggy piece of rock in the bottom of a fairly large crater. His voice was hushed as he spoke.
Isn't it amazing? I still dont know what it is. Mother says its a fallen star. Do you really think so?

Cloud raced after Lorkan, easily keeping up with him but choosing to run just at his flanks instead of at his side. She swept through the upper forests of the Ravilin territory, excited to be learning about the land. Her nose worked insanely, scenting and gaining information about the forest. The trees were very old, and here and there the pale wolf thought she scented... wolves, not of those she'd met so far. Perhaps it was her imagination.
She slowed her pace as Lorkan did, her eyes growing wide as the strange new smell assaulted her nostrils. Ugh, what is that? she thought as she stepped delicately after the younger male. Aloud, she said, I didn't think the stars could fall. But did it really come from the sky?

For moments on end that would seem to span a lifetime Surulian watched the two wolves before him, they were enraptured by youth and the lightness of the mood. Neither seems to be bound by strings of regret and hollowness, neither seemed to know the darkness that was depression and the soulless fatigue it drowned you with. In truth he envied them, their spirits so free as if carried upon transparent wings. Larkan was young and strong, perhaps someday he would be the alpha of these hills as his mother was. Or perhaps he would seek out new horizons and build his own strong pack of followers. The possibilities were limitless. And Cloud, she seemed as light as her name suggested, unbound by earthly confinements. And it touched a very special place in his heart, a place that harbored such things for once upon a time he had been of the same ilk. He marveled at her as she strode out ahead of him and burst out after them without further adieu. He ran… and he ran in such a way that he hadn’t in a very long time. The cool air rushed into his lungs and his limbs worked in perfect synchronization to carry him just at their heels before they came to the outlook of the great meteor. Surulian stopped quietly near Clouds shoulder, and marveled speechlessly at the humbled star of the heavens. He had never seen such a thing, nor had he experienced the strange smell it emitted.
“A star you say? From the heavens? … Perhaps it’s a tear of the gods turned to biter stone upon touching the imperfection of the earth… Whatever it is… it is incredible.”

Lorkan nodded his crania at their words.
If it was not a star, what else could have fallen from the heavans?
Lorkan noted how super-rich grasses had begun to grow around the scar. Nature was healing, and the minerals left by the meteor were acting as a fine fertilizer.
When you two have had your fill, we can go see the beach. I like it there.
His tone was not impatient, he was content to let them marvel like he himself had so many times before.

The white femme twisted her ears to hear Surulian's words, and she was puzzled by the soft bitterness in his wondering tone. She had a hard time believing the vast heap of... strange metallic earth came shooting down from the ink above them. Yet she wouldn't argue with Lorkan; she had a feeling he was rather hardheaded in arguments.
Cloud swept her tail up and she turned her muzzle away from the ruins around the fallen star, picking up her paws daintily and moving away from the troubled ground. Whatever it is, certainly I don't know. She brushed lightly by the dark colored wolf as she padded to Lorkan's side, reassuring herself that regardless of what the strange structure was, she was among her kind and the things of the heavens didn't affect her.

The moments that prevailed held Surulian’s gaze to the large ominous mass before him. The world had dropped dimly away as he took in the ambiance of inevitability. Something inside of him grew terribly wary, as though this massive thing from another world was very unnatural and somehow… somewhere... posed a threat that none of them could fully comprehend. But the uncertainty of it all caused even more turbulence in his mind and he found himself shaking his head away from it as they all turned to retreat from the site, on to other unknowns. The brief contact with the soft hued female made the raven sinews of his bodice bristle in response, a quake rippled down his spine catching him completely off guard. He watched her movements carefully, devouring the image in slow motion before correcting himself. Had he not just arrived after a lengthy seclusion? Had he not decided before arriving that his heart was far too unmendable to ever pursue the quests of love again? He argued with himself firmly as though correcting a small child. Yet in the end he was left in simple wonderment at his natural reactions to such things. Perhaps… could his heart have begun to mean over those long months of solitude? He did not think such things were possible. But to reject them… ahh the notions had become preposterous. For he barely knew Cloud nor did she know him; and what ever would she find in these broken eyes? He shook the thoughts aside as though accumulated snow and looked on as they progressed. He would admit to the fact that he wished to know her further if she would allow. That much he could allow himself anyway.
Thoughts transposed to the youthful male who had jogged ahead and recalled his previous words. The beach…. It was foreign to him save for when he had appeared amongst the frothy tides of early morning when he entered Moon Island. He had moved away from that place quickly as there was something magnificent and all together terrifying about the crashing of those waves against rock and sand. The air there seemed different as well and left salty imprints upon his tongue. It was a mystery though, and so he jogged after them eagerly, pulling up alongside Cloud as he called out to Lorkan.
“ I must thank you for our tour Lorkan, it is quite refreshing to learn the layout of this land that we are to call home. I must say it is beautiful.”

Lorkan beamed proudly at Surulian. In his young mind the dark wolf was already a sort of mentor, for Lorkan scarcely remembered his father, having only known him in extreme youth. Carrick was old and grumpy, and there were no others whom he could call a father figure.
On a whim he circled them, nipping gently at their heels and flanks, trying to induce them to play, to run with him forever so that he didn't have to feel the guilt or see the hurt in his mother's eyes. Shaking his crania as the thoughts subconsciously released a soft whimper of distress, Lorkan play bowed in front of them and dashed a few feet away.
To the beach! He cried, and began heading south, towards the rolling grasslands that few Ravilin wolves seemed to enter. Lorkan embraced it all as his home, and he would show its many wonders to any who would follow him.

Cloud grinned at Lorkan's antics as he circled the older wolves, nipping and asking for play. She responded appropriately. The white fem launched herself toward the yearling, jaws snapping playfully near his haunches as he took off for the beach. To the beach! His youthful words echoed in her ears, and she could almost imagine that tinge of sadness wasn't there.
Yet it was, and Cloud realized that the longer she spent with the forest wolves, the more of their past she would begin to know. The more she knew, the fem realized, the more she too would hold that look of sadness, for she would feel for her friends and their troubled pasts. Cloud shook her pretty frame and sped up so that she might run alongside her new pack brother, Lorkan.
One thing I know for certain, I will not be brought down like some of these poor wolves have been. I will be a shinning ray of light for them, if they'll have me, through the clouds and leaves of this dark forest. Her bright, puppy blue eyes glanced sideways at Lorkan, laughing gaily. Faster, Lorkan! If I knew the way, I could be you easily! She sprang over a fallen log and landed in a rush on the other side, looking back briefly for Surulian.

Lorkan was astounded that Cloud responded to his behavior. Joy for once filled his young heart as he picked up his pace, the trees blurring past them in a joyous melding of green and grey.
I am younger! I am faster! His face was a shining grin on a handsome young wolf, for once he had come alive, letting the shackles of his usually somber nature free, if only for a short time. He didnt realize it yet, but the more time he spent away from the hollowness that his mother projected, the happier and younger he felt.
He extended his stride, occasionally weaving in front of her and then doubling back to come up from behind, bumping her shoulders and flanks playfully while still making progress towards the beach. He too, kept a small part of his awareness trained on Surulian, confidant that the older male could easily catch up.

Ahh the simple yet vastly important element of play… so long had he forgotten such antics, banishing them from his mind like a dark cloud sent out across the endless sea by a brisk wind. How long had it been since he had simply played? Eons… for years had toppled against years, corroding away his memory so that he could not pinpoint the exact last time. But it had been a lifetime ago. Long before his woesome travels after the fall of Cold Creek. And when he had led that pack? He could still not recall such times of play. Things had always been a matter of the heart, or a matter of survival, with the breath of death always looming just behind their shoulders. There had been no silver rimmed clouds, or crystal clear days of endless blue skies. There had been a darkness, always a darkness… even when it wasn’t his own.
But within every wolf there is the soul of a wolf, and though Surulian would have repressed such a thing, it was simply unbearable. He watched Lorkan’s antics with a bit of amusement as he circled around, chuckling at the younger wolf. He nearly squealed as a nip landed upon him, crow hopped to the side in a spring like maneuver and found himself speeding after him. Jaws hung agape, a soft pink tongue slapping limply out of those confines as he bounded after him. As Cloud pulled up alongside Lorkan, Surulian took to the opposing side, the three running in a playful line. Was that joy in their eyes? All three of them perhaps? If only for a sparkling moment, I believe it was. And as they left swift imprints in the sand below them, the landscape opened up its arms and welcomed the trio of sprinters. His voice was jovial as it rung out to his companions, ringing with a lightness that was so very foreign.
“You two may be younger! But I shall not be left in the dust!”

Cloud's laugh rumbled aloud, and she put on an extra burst of speed just as the three wolves were coming to the edges of the dunes. She chortled and brushed her tail playfully across Lorkan's muzzle, light paws dancing on ahead of him and Surulian. She had seen a beach before, scented it's strange smells, and knew they were coming close to what had to be the Ravilin shore.
The she-wolf slowed her pace finally, panting hard after the long but joyful run. She looked back to her two male pack mates with eyes that sparkled happily. There was no sadness here, no bitterness, and no weight from invisible forces to keep them down. They were together, happy, and discovering new lands within their territory. Cloud didn't think she could ask for a better autumn day.

It was as if Lorkan had been set free. the two adults has responded to his antics, and they al seemed...lighter when the run was finished. He had returned surulian's nips, trying to tussle and slow down the other male. An exuberance seemed to shine about his very being, as if he radiated an aura of love and happiness. This was how pack life should be, enjoying the simple things, the freedom of being a wolf, of life. Not wallowing it away in saddness like his mother-though he could not know the pain of losing a mate and young.
As the grass started to thin out where the sand began, Lorkan scented the grumpy Carrick, and wondered if was still in a bad mood, like always. He also scented blood.
Wolf blood.
He turned his cerulean orbed gaze towards his two friends, for they were older and had more experience in such matters.
Do we go investigate?
